The Lady Justice Sculpture - Gilbert E Barrera, Sculptor

The Lady Justice Bronze Sculpture by Gilbert E Barrera

This is an original sculpture composition for a lady justice figure worldwide. She was popular 800 BC to the time of Jesus' birth. Her presentation, sculptural style and accessories are painstakingly accurate and researched to be visually accurate as per her time of popularity as a Greek goddess. She is artfully done as a Greek master sculptor would have invented her in her time period. Today she is the only naturally all bare exhibited Lady Justice in a public square setting in the United States and perhaps farther. She was dedicated December 2008. She is on main plaza at the Bexar County Courthouse steps, downtown San Antonio, Texas. Interestingly the sculptor Barrera was born only a half mile away from her location at Santa Rosa Hospital, and baptized merely one block away at San Fernando Cathedral, oldest Cathedral in the U.S. Barrera's father Roy R. Barrera Sr. and brothers and cousins are all lawyers at the courthouse. The sculptors name is credited on a bronze floor plaque at the foot of the sculpture and its cast iron fountain base of 1896. [Barrera also restored the 1896 cast iron fountain.]
